People keep saying that #StrangeNewWorlds is the light hearted, optimistic version of #StarTrek. But basically everyone on the show has PTSD or some other psychological trauma. La’an, PTSD after surviving the Gorn as a child. Ortegas, PTSD after surviving the Gorn as an adult. Pike PTSD from foreknowledge of his tragic future. Scotty, PTSD from the destruction of his ship and death of his crew. Uhura, survivor’s guilt from the death of her family. Even Spock has survivor’s guilt from the “disappearance” of his sister. And yet they triumph through skill, grit, and idealism. Is competence porn the new trauma porn?
