For Spock, “The Griffin Incident” is something of a sequel to “Four and a Half Vulcans.” The former is horror and the latter is comedy but they both represent Spock’s struggle to reckon with his Vulcan and human heritage. In one, his own internalized racism and self hatred are made manifest, driving him away from his Vulcan side. In the other, his Vulcan discipline and logic are able to save him from being consumed by his human fear and emotion.
That awkward moment when your horror scifi accidentally evokes the same energy as a beloved sitcom.

When the Martians destroy their enemies' homeworld Spock comes up with a plan to get Enterprise home by steering it into the shockwave. As the camera pans over the crews' faces, it is only Spock who appears to have any confidence that the plan will succeed.

In season two of #StarTrekDiscovery, Captain Pike orders Una to rip the holographic communication system out of Enterprise permanently. In season three of #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds, he concludes that the new holodeck is not ready for use on ships and jokes that Scottie’s addendum about how it could be made to work should be written in a smaller font. For a former test pilot, Pike sure is skittish about experimental technology.

One of the most fun aspects of “Wedding Bell Blues” is spotting the subtle little appearances that Trelane makes in the episode when nobody is supposed to see him. While he mostly appears to the audience as actor Rhys Darby, through reflections we can see that characters on the show see him as a Vulcan waiter and as an Andorian wedding planner.
He also appears in other, even more subtle ways. Initially, Scotty detects a “sensor echo” on his transporter console. Trelane is also just barely visible in the window of Spock’s quarters. There is also shot of Starbase One where the camera zooms into one the biomes and the picture briefly shimmers as if the camera is traveling through space and entering the biome’s dome without being detected.
