“It’s like looking for a neddle in a haystack, made of needles.”

Wouldn’t that make it easier to find a needle? Just saying. I guess we’ve found something that Genesis is bad at, making analogies.

This is a children’s book? Damn. Bajoran children don’t play.

Rewatching episode 2 of #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy. It seems pretty clear that the Betazoid President was there to “Say no” to the Federation. Presumably the public negotiations in front of the students were meant to convince the voters at home on Betazed that rejoining the Federation was a bad idea. There are also subtle, little hints that Admiral Vance is talking to Federation officials off screen. This makes the final offer which the Betazoid President can’t refuse more plausible and makes the episode work better for me.

I don’t always enjoy the teen comedy aspects of #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy but I do love that there is a giant blue alien drill sergeant with a British accent around to heap abuse on these kids whenever they get too annoying.

Babylon 5 ambassadors to their deputies: “Don’t give away the homeworld!”

#StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy president to Admiral negotiating with the Betazoids: “Fuck it! We need these guys. Give them the homeworld!”

I don’t know what planet this guy’s from but I want to hear his band play.

Short Treks idea:

Set during the second episode of #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy and told entirely by the point of view of the Federation president.

The president’s ship is in transit between Bajor and Earth when it is attacked by the Breen. She hunkers down in a safe room while simultaneously talking to Admiral Vance on subspace as he conducts negotiations with the Betazoids. Loud noises can be heard outside the safe room and occasionally members of the crew come in to brief her on the status of the battle.

One of the things that bothered me about the second episode of #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy is the negotiations between Admiral Vance and the Betazoid President. The Federation calls itself a democracy and has a president who is very active in #Discovery. So why isn’t she the one negotiating here?

The irony of the recent bruhaha over Stephen Miller hating on #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy and calling for William Shatner to take over the Star Trek franchise is that:

  1. Shatner dislikes Miller’s boss Donald Trump.
  2. After the 2024 election, Shatner openly wondered how the Democrats lost to Trump.

We need to talk about the Cheronians. I didn’t mind seeing one as a one off easter egg in #Section31 but now that we’ve seen another one in #StarTrek #StarFleetAcademy they are no longer an easter egg, they are an established spacefaring race that is still traveling the stars even though they destroyed themselves way back in the 23rd century.

Obviously there were some survivors since we’ve seen them twice now. But to keep seeing them does diminish the power of the original series episode “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield.” The whole point of that episode was about the destruction brought about by hatred and racism.

One thing that I have noticed is that the two post-apocalyptic Cheronians are black on the right side, just like Commissioner Bele from the original series episode. Now the black on the right Cheronians were oppressing the black on the left Cheronians and that oppression was what kicked off the civil war which destroyed Cheron. It’s possible that Bele’s people won or were only ones to escape the destruction of Cheron and that genocide and can be explored in the future. This is exactly the sort of story which Star Trek should be tackling so hopefully we can see this explored.

Paul Giamatti looks like he’s having a blast here.
